How can one Import MS Word Tables into Adobe InDesign CS3 retaining all formatting?

We have 500 plus pages of formatted MS Word tables that we need to import into Adobe Indesign CS3 retaining our Word formatting (for a book project). Thus far all attempts to do this have failed. Is there a procedure for accomplishing this? Thanks for any possible help.

Go to File>Place and make sure “show import options” is checked. Then click the Word file and a dialog box will pop up and there will be an option to keep tables and formatting.
