I do this all the time in Word 2007 but it was difficult for me to find it the first time. Office 2007 has hidden macro menus and form menus from view. So the first thing you need to do is to unhide this. To do this, click on the Office icon and select Word Options. Select the Popular choice on the left hand side (it should automatically open to this) - the third item in the list says “Show Developer Tab in the Ribbon - select this. Then click on the OK button.

Go to the Developer tab. In the Controls group there is a file folder with a bunch of tools on it. If you rest your point over top of it - it should say “Legacy Tools”.
Click on it and you will see a list of icons for “Legacy Forms” and a list of icons for “Active X Controllers”. Ignore the Active X icons. See the second icon that looks like a box with a check - that is what you want to select.

The next step is to protect the document so the form will work properly.

To protect the form just click on the “Protect Document” icon in the group all by itself - second from the end.

A menu will pop up. Go to where it says
2. Editing Restrictions.
Click on the little box that says “Allow only this type of editing…”
Notice that the box underneath it became active.
Click on the little arrow beside it and select Filling In Forms.
Then go to the bottom of the menu and click on Yes, Start Enforcing Protection. At this point it will ask you to enter a password. You don’t have to if you don’t want to - just click OK. Close the menu.

Now your form is ready. If you realize you need to edit any part of it just click on the Protect Document icon again to bring on the menu and select Stop Protection at the bottom of it.
