First off, Open Office is NOT a clone. It’s a community supported Office Productivity Suite. Microsoft didn’t invent the office suite.
There are reasons to use Microsoft Office, mostly as an act of submission to the great company Microsoft.
But, I use Open Office exclusively and I edit M$ Office documents fine. My computer is faster, I have zero license issues or costs, and I could list another dozen really good reasons to avoid installing M$ Office on your PC.

The totally blue layout seriously sucks; it’s not pretty. I wanted to keep my pink theme, so I switched back to Office 2003. What a relief that was, especially getting away from the “ribbon” toolbar.

I agree. Although as far as Office 2007 bringing the system to a halt. I’ve found all MS Office’s from XP onwards do that
Even with a decent computer Office still loves to slow things to a crawl.
IMO Office XP was the best and ahere they should’ve left it.
It is the easiest and still functional.
Office 2007 i spend hours just trying to find the menu that a basic function is now under.
